COURSE DESCRIPTION

This course identifies methods by which the client's psychosocial environment may be utilized when assessing an individual with a gambling problem. Topics include:

  • Understanding the underlying personality dynamics in assessing for a gambling addiction.
  • Integrating the Balance of Life Model of Addiction into understanding the functioning of a gambling addicted client.
  • Differentiating between a gambling addiction and other mental health disorders.

Learners will develop the ability to complete an initial assessment and formal diagnosis of an addicted gambler with special attention to the DSM-IV criteria and other assessment tools.
